COLONEL (RETD.) MUHAMMAD MATIUR RAHMAN

Colonel Muhammad Matiur Rahman, BGBM, PBGM, PSC (retired) was born on 15 June 1970 at a village: Pathanchalk PO: Nischintapur, Matlob North, Chandpur. He is a student of Nischintapur High School and passed SSC in the year of 1985. He studied higher secondary education in Notre Dame College and joined Bangladesh Military Academy on 08 January 1991 and was commissioned on 20 December 1992 with 27th BMA Long Course in the Regiment of Infantry. After serving more than 33 years, he retired on 14 June 2023 from Bangladesh Army.
Colonel Matiur completed his graduation from Chittagong University in 1992. He is a graduate of Defense Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He completed his Masters in Defense Studies (MDS) from National University in 2004. He also earned Masters in Social Science (MSS) degree from the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Dhaka in 2019. He completed his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resources Management from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in 2022-2024.
Colonel Matiur attended a number of professional courses and seminars at home and abroad. Worth mentioning are Basic Intelligence Course at School of Military Intelligence (SMI) at Cumilla, Comprehensive Security Response to Terrorism (CSRT)-01/08 at Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) at Hawaii, USA. He attended Executive Seminar (ES-01/2012) at Near East South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies at Washington DC in the USA. He participated twice in Inspectors General BSF and Region Commander BGB Level Border Coordination conference in Kolkata, India.
Colonel Matiur held a number of important staff, instructional and command appointments and enjoyed most challenging command climate both in Chattogram Hill Tracts and Garrison life, in smuggle prone area and in peace and in war situation along Myanmar front. He served as GSO-3 (Intelligence) in an Independent Infantry Brigade, GSO-II of Directorate General Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and AA&QMG of Joshore Area. He has a vast experience of command where he commanded one Infantry Regiment, one Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion, two BGB Sectors and Border Security Bureau. He also served as Chief Instructor of Unit Command and Staff Course Wing in School of Infantry and Tactics (SI&T), Jalalabad Cantonment, Sylhet.
As commanding officer Colonel Matiur displayed highest degree of courage, integrity and sense of responsibility to defend the motherland from Myanmar aggression being deployed under “Operation Purba Pracheer”. As commanding officer and Sector Commander of BGB, Colonel Matiur displayed exemplary standard of honesty, integrity, sense of duty and patriotism to protect Indo-Bangladesh border along Joshore District, Rajshahi and Chatttogram Division. GoB awarded him highest gallantry award “Border Guard Bangladesh Medal (BGBM)” and “President Border Guard Medal (PBGM)” in the consecutive years for outstanding and courageous contributions in border management, controlling trans-border crime, preventing drug, women and children trafficking and anti-smuggling operations. He was also awarded with Commendation of Director General (DG) twice on Operational Activities. For honesty, devotion, sincerity and patriotism Colonel Matiur Rahman was judged as the best performer in BGB and awarded to perform Holy Hajj in 2015.
As Major, he served very efficiently as Platoon Commander in the United Nations Mission in Sierra-Leone (UNAMSIL), a war-ravaged country in 2002-2003. He also served as Military Staff Officer of United Nations Mission in Cote-de Ivorie (UNOCI) in 2008-2009. Colonel Matiur served as Chief of Staff Military (COS) of Western Brigade in Kinshasa under United Nations Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in 201-2015.
Colonel Matiur Rahman was actively involved with the educational institutions administered by Army and BGB. He was member of the Governing Body of Dawood Public School, Jashore and Military Collegiate School Khulna (MCSK) in 2011-2012. He was the President of Managing Committee of Border Guard Public School, Jashore in 2012-2013 and Shaheed Shaheed Colonel Emdad BGB Public School, Rajshahi in 2014. He also performed as the Director Administration and Registrar of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in 2019-2023.
Colonel Matiur has visited USA, UK, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Turkey, Uganda, DR Congo and India. He is a keen observer on geo-political, security and economic issues of the contemporary world order. Col Matiur is happily married to Afrina Rimi and proud father of three daughters.

শৃঙ্খলা আপনাকে সময় ব্যবস্থাপনা শিখায়, নিয়ম মানতে সাহায্য করে, দায়িত্ব পালনে দৃঢ় রাখে এবং প্রতিকূলতা মোকাবেলায় সাহস জোগায়। শ্রেণিকক্ষে হোক কিংবা জীবনের যেকোনো পর্যায়ে, শৃঙ্খলাই আপনাকে সঠিক পথে রাখবে। এটা কেবল কলেজ জীবনের নয়, সারা জীবনের সঙ্গী।
নৈতিকতা হল সেই মূল্যবোধের সমষ্টি, যা মানুষকে সত্যিকারের মানুষ করে তোলে— সততা, সম্মানবোধ, অন্যের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা, এবং সমাজের প্রতি দায়িত্ববোধ। আপনার কর্মে সততা, আচরণে শ্রদ্ধা ও কথায় সদ্ভাব বজায় রাখুন। নৈতিকতা আপনার চরিত্র গঠন করে এবং আপনাকে সমাজে সম্মান ও আস্থার জায়গা এনে দেয়।
নিশ্চিন্তপুর ডিগ্রি কলেজে আমরা কেবল শিক্ষিত ব্যক্তি গড়ে তোলার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিই না, বরং নৈতিক ও দায়িত্বশীল মানুষ গড়ে তোলার দিকেও সমান গুরুত্ব দিই। আমরা চাই, আপনারা শুধু শিক্ষিত নন, বরং এমন মানুষ হন যারা সমাজে আলোর পথ দেখাতে পারে। আপনাদের মধ্যে থেকেই গড়ে উঠুক আগামী দিনের শিক্ষক, ডাক্তার, প্রশাসক, উদ্যোক্তা এবং মানবিক নেতৃত্ব। আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, প্রকৃত শিক্ষা মন ও হৃদয়—দুইয়ের বিকাশে সহায়ক হওয়া উচিত। জেনে রাখুন, গ্রাম থেকে আসা মানেই পিছিয়ে থাকা নয়—বরং এখান থেকেই উঠে আসতে পারে দেশের শ্রেষ্ঠ সন্তান।
গভর্নিং বডির পক্ষ থেকে আমি আপনাদের এই প্রতিশ্রুতি দিচ্ছি—শৃঙ্খলা, নৈতিকতা ও শিক্ষার সমন্বয়ে গঠিত পরিবেশকে আমরা আরও শক্তিশালী ও সহায়ক করে তুলব।
